Role

The role of Advanced Practice Nursing in Brazil does not currently exist. However, as of 2022 Cofen, the regulating organization for nurses in Brazil has been actively interested and investigating the potential and feasibility of developing a more advanced role for nursing. According to Alves de Araújo Puschel et al (2022) there are significant health disparities in Brazil and an organized nursing workforce that would be a good foundation to develop the role. During the COVID pandemic, collaborative efforts were made with other nations that strengthened the interest to proceed with advancing nursing practice. However, reportedly with the combination of strengthening of the physician’s role, presence of nursing workforce shortages, and lack of legislative movement on nursing has shown further momentum would be needed before such a role were to take shape (Alves de Araújo Puschel, 2022).
