FIJI ISLANDS: The first class of nurse practitioners graduated with a post graduate diploma in nursing practice in 1999. Acceptance to the advanced practice nursing program required one to be both registered nurse and a midwife. After 13 years and 75 graduates, the program remains at the Fiji School of Nursing, now part of Fiji National University, and is transitioning the a Masters Degree. The program has also graduated nurses from Solomon Islands, Tonga and Tuvalu.
